Anyone who has anything to do with animation is familiar with the name Sonic the hedgehog. Since its creation it has come a long way and even today Sonic continues to charm the world with his supernatural antics. Sega needed a new mascot and all it had to do was invest in a team of experts who humanized a hedgehog, painted it blue, gave it Santa shoes and gave it a generous dose of abilities that surpassed any human capabilities. The net result was a world famous series of video games and before long Sonic the hedgehog was what people wanted to play.
In this article we will discuss some of the milestones that were responsible for Sonic the hedgehog s soaring popularity. Along with Dr. Robotnik Sonic was first seen in the platform game Sonic the Hedgehog. This was part of Segas Mega Drive or Genesis. In the sequel for the same game series he acquired a new friend Miles Prower. After two years, in 1993 the CD for Sonic the hedgehog was launched where viewers saw his girlfriend Amy Ross who was modeled after Madonna. There was also an inclusion of his ally and look alike Metal Sonic who helped him when he was out there battling against evil. In the next year the game series Sonic and Knuckles was launched where the exciting saga of the battle between Robotnik and Sonic commenced. Here, Sonic was supported by his friend Miles. Later, another dimension was added where Knuckles was made to think by Robotnik that Sonic s presence was harmful to the planet.
Some other similar series were Sonic Chaos, Sonic Advance 3, Sonic the Hedgehog pocket adventure, and Sonic Rush Adventure amongst others. After a few years in 1998, the Sonic Adventure was the perfect opportunity for for its creators to include something for exciting for the fans of Sonic. It featured Sonic returning from a vacation only to find that his planet has been infiltrated by a strong alliance of Robotnik and another powerful enemy Chaos. This was the first show to have a complete voice over. The story continued with Sonic being mistaken for an enemy in 2001. Two years later Sonic had the chance to build a strong team with Tails and Knuckles along with other characters who collaborated against Metal Sonic. Another two years later, Sega appealed to the aesthetic sense of its viewers by where the Sonic the Hedgehog visits the picturesque Soleanna. Here he is given the task of rescuing Princess Elise who is under attack from Dr. Robotnik aka Mr Eggman. The complexity of the game increases when is known that his life is also under attack from Silver the Hedgehog.
Soon his game series was available in 2d and 3d platforms! Subsequently, basis the popularity of the game series several other sequels were launched. With the swelling stardom of Sonic the hedgehog Sega started to launch other video games where Sonic only played a cameo role. As ideas churned out of Sega, Sonic the hedgehog became an icon in the world of animations.
