Sonic Advance is developed by two developers which are Sonic Team and Dimps. The publisher of Sonic Advance is Sega, Nokia, and THQ. The producers of the game are Yuji Naka and Hiroshi Matsumoto. The director of the game is Akinori Nishiyama. The Art Director is Yuji Uekawa. The Music Composed & Arranger is Masato Nakamura. Other music composers are Tatsuyuki Maeda, and Yutaka Minobe. Sonic Advance runs on several platforms include Game Boy Advance, and Nokia N Gage. Sonic Advance Game Boy Advance version is debut on 22nd December 2001 in Japan; in United States, it is released on 4th February 2002; in PAL region, it is released on 23rd March 2002. Sonic Advance N Gage is released on 7th October 2003; in PAL region, it was released on 7th October 2003. Sonic Advance can be played as a single player or multiplayer game. CERO and ESRB rated the game as suitable for all ages.

The playable characters in the game are Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy. The game controls for all the characters are the same except for the control for attacking the enemies. To move left, press the Left button. To move right, press the Right button. To jump, press the A button. To pause the game, press the Start button. To make Sonic perform Spin Attack, press the A button twice. To make Sonic roll into the enemy, press the B button. To make Tails and Knuckles glide, press the A button twice. To make Tails perform a Tail Spin, press the B button. To make Knuckles punch, press the B button. To make Amy perform the Love Hammer, press the B button.

The storyline of the game begins with Dr. Eggman who wants to have the seven Chaos Emeralds so he can dominate the whole world. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy have a mission to stop Dr. Eggman from his evil plan.

Sonic Advance has 6 zones. The Neo Green Hill zone has a lot of similarity with the Green Hill Zone of Sonic 1 except that the beach has additional items at the start of Act 1. The boss in the first zone is the most easiest to defeat. Eggman will appear at the bridge in the end of the second Act. This is the place where the Hammertank will appear. The Hammertank will move from one side of the screen to the other. You should jump up and hit the tank to avoid being hit by the tank. If you are playing as Sonic, you should use Double Spin Attack. If it is Tails, use the Spin Attack. If it is Knuckles, glide into the tank and hit it. If you are Amy, perform a Love Hammer in the mid air.

You must collect the 7 Special Springs to gain entrance into the special stage to obtain the Chaos Emeralds and unlock the Extra Zone. The Special Spring resembles a large blue spring. There are several rings in the special stage. If you hit the obstacle in the special stage, you will lose ten rings. If you hit a bumper, you will dash forward. The bumper resembles a small red ring. If you run into a Chao, you will be rewarded with a Continue. The orange circle will reward you with 5 points if you press the B button while going through it after hearing the message “Failure!”.
There are two ways to earn Rings which are, through the game or earning them through the two mini games at the Tiny Chao Garden.
